Weather in the Atlas Mountains can vary depending on where and how high you go. In the High Atlas, you can find a lot of different kinds of summers that are cool but sunny, with temperatures hovering around 77°F/25°C during the day. In winter, temperatures drop below freezing, sometimes as low as -4°F/-20°C. Snowfall is common – making this the only time to travel if you want to go skiing. Like Fez, the rest of the Middle Atlas region has heavy rains in winter and warm, sunny summers.
Moroccan Sahara
The Sahara Desert is roaring in summer, with daytime temperatures around 115°F/45°C. At night, temperatures drop dramatically – and in winter, it can positively freeze. Book a desert tour during spring and fall when it’s not too hot or cold. Be aware that March and April often coincide with Sirocco winds, which can cause dusty, dry conditions, poor visibility, and sudden sandstorms.
